Our next WGA meeting is Tuesday, March 26, at 7:00 P. M. Our guest speaker will be
Miss. Jan Risher.
Jan Risher grew up in the middle of Mississippi with a family full of storytellers. She eventually made her way to Louisiana—taking the long route to get there with stops in between in the mountains of Slovakia, a tribal village in Burkina Faso, the hills of central Mexico, Reno, Nevada, Washington, D.C., El Paso, Texas, and more. She's been a regular columnist for three newspapers and continues to write a Sunday column for Lafayette's Daily Advertiser. She is the former managing editor of The Times of Acadiana and has been a full-time teacher and owner of a public relations firm. She continues a freelance writing career, focusing primarily on business writing. She is a co-author of Team Renaissance: The Art, Science, and Politics of Great Teams. She is a graduate of Mississippi State University and makes her home in Lafayette with her husband and two daughters.
We are happy to announce that we have started a meeting for extra enrichment. This is for all members interested in discussing topics relating to various genres. We may do exercises to put these ideas into practice. We will call this group, "Goal Diggers." We hope to see our interested members there for our sixth meeting which will be Monday, April 15, @ 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Barnes and Noble. The subject will be "Character " development: Pace and flow in your writing..
The 2012-2014 WGA Anthology book, made up of the poetry, short fiction, and memoir "prompt" winners for those three years, is available for purchase at our meetings. We also have an outstanding WGA cookbook available for $5 each while supplies last. They make great gifts!
